He was the first Youth Director at Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Wayne, PA , where he served for over two years. Starting in 1994 he served as the Youth and Children’s Pastor in Valdosta, Georgia. In 1997 he received the call to Liberty as the Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries. Since that time he has served as Interim Senior Pastor and now assists in shepherding the flock with Pastor Russ, specifically in the areas of Christian Education, pastoral care and visitation, preaching, administration, and Men’s ministry (and whatever else Russ wants him to do). In 2014 he received his Doctor of Ministry from Covenant Theological Seminary. Barry married his wife Margaret in 1986 and they have three children, Rebecca, Ben, and Glenna.
We’d like to thank Pastor Russ and Donna Sukhia for their 13 years of service to our church. Below, find links to hear Russ’s sermons, read his book, or browse his blog.
Born and raised in Baltimore, then moving to Florida in his youth, Russ came to faith in Christ as a third year college student, through the testimony of his brother Doug. Russ transferred from the University of Florida to Shelton College, affiliated with the Bible Presbyterian Church, and there he was introduced to the doctrines of grace, and felt God’s call to preach. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Faith Seminary in Philadelphia in 1976.
Since then he has pastored churches in New York, Tennessee and Florida. In November of 2004 he was called from Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, where he was serving as an Assistant Pastor and teaching Bible at Westminster Academy, to become senior pastor of Liberty Church, PCA. In November of 2017, Russ retired after 13 years of service to our church. He and his wife Donna now reside in Virginia. They have two children, Nathan and Grace, both graduates of Covenant College, and seven grandchildren.
