Dear Liberty Church,
As I was reading in my devotional the other day, I came across a familiar passage found in John 5 in which Jesus was teaching the Jews about His authority. Any legal claim in ancient Israel had to be confirmed by two or three witnesses, and thus Jesus lists off the witnesses that attest to His claim as the Son of God: first, John the Baptist (v.33), then Jesus’ own miracles (v.36), and then the Father (v.37), and finally, the Scriptures (v.39). This last one is intriguing. Jesus accuses the Jews of searching the Scriptures for eternal life (v.39), but that seems like a noble endeavor! Shouldn’t we all be searching the Word, looking for life?
But herein lies the rub: JESUS IS THE WORD! We don’t search Scripture for knowledge; we search Scripture for a Person. We don’t come to God to just receive ‘good’ things; we come to God to receive the actual Giver. This week, I want to encourage you to ask, to seek, and to knock in order to gain more of Christ. He is the source of all hope, joy, and comfort during this challenging time. And He is not far from you, for it is the word of faith that clings to the true Word of Life!

Hello Liberty Church!. We hope that you are looking forward to our FIRST Zoom Adult Sunday School class on 5/3/2020 (that’s this coming Sunday!) from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.
We will be tackling together “The Only Gospel” Ligonier video series taught by Dr. Derek Thomas. It is a 14 week study of the book of Galatians, thought of as likely Paul’s first epistle. We will watch the video together (I’ll be sharing my screen) and then for the rest of the hour we will discuss and take questions and comments. You will get a Zoom invite and just follow the instructions on how to join the meeting.
